Gloucester, a coastal city on Cape Ann, has been one of the centers of the North Atlantic fishing industry for centuries in Massachusetts. It is apart of Massachusetts, North Shore and is the oldest fishing port in the United States. Its fishing heritage is reflected in the harbor-side Fisherman’s Memorial, Man at the Wheel statue with the names of those lost at sea. Gloucester ranks as the Commonwealths’ number 1 port for commercial lobster fishing with 141 commercial lobstermen landing 3,649,245 pounds of lobster annually.
